It has taken us nearly three generations to make a push back to self reliance in some cities and surrounding suburbs. For years the convenience was so alluring that it just took people and made slaves of them. They struggled to fight the tide and eventually gave into it. Much of this also had to do with the fact that the kids of those steel minded survivors of the past were not taught or did not value the skills of their ancestors.
Now with the advent of technology and the type of things that are children find entertaining, teaching them these skills is incredibly tough. Pulling them from the technological sphere becomes more and more of a chore the older they get. As parents, this is part of what we have to do for our children.
